It prefers moist soils and open areas where it develops into groups of individuals at all stages of development (Hetterscheid,

The lamina is at least 3 times dissected and that on a recent leaf of a mature Titan Arum in Bonn was 5.2 m in diameter. It covers an area of 22m² and a leaf can last from 9 to 24 months.
Young plants only keep their leaves for 6 months. The tuber is able to double its weight during the vegetative period. When has reached about 15 kg, is mature and can produce a leaf or inflorescence after dormancy.
